Welcome to the Region 8 – Lower Brazos Regional Flood Planning Group

Flood planning to safeguard Texas communities has begun.

Community and public stakeholders are encouraged to become involved.

In 2019, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 8 directing the creation of the first-ever State Flood Plan for Texas — to be prepared by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) and to follow a similar region-driven “bottom-up” approach that’s been used for water supply planning in Texas for the past 20 years.

Fifteen flood planning regions have been established — based on river basins. The first-ever Texas Flood Plan will be delivered from Regional Flood Planning Groups to the TWDB by January 10, 2023.

The overarching goal of regional flood planning, and the comprehensive state flood plan that will result from the plans created by these regions, is to protect against loss of life and property from flooding.

If you have questions or concerns about the data collection tool and/or the interactive web map or need access to the survey as a community stakeholder, please contact Audrey Giesler with Halff Associates, Inc. at (817) 764-7510 or agiesler@halff.com. Please contact Audrey if you would like to schedule a virtual meeting to discuss the data request questions and assistance with completing the survey .

THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT DATA FOR YOUR ENTITY/COMMUNITY HAS BEEN EXTENDED!

Initially, there was a target deadline of August 13, 2021. However, we understand the challenges of this deadline for many local officials due to staff availability and/or volume of information requested. Since participation is essential for our bottom-up approach to be successful, please continue to provide submissions through August 31 . The Lower Brazos RFPG needs to receive your input in order to better understand the local flood risks and mitigation efforts, as well as the flood-related conditions, challenges, and needs across the entire region.

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY INPUT?

You can access the Lower Brazos RFPG’s electronic data collection tool at www.lowerbrazos.org . Visit the website to access the stakeholder survey, as well as an interactive web map to identify specific flood-prone sites in your area.

  • To login as a Community Representative on behalf of your entity, your unique username is your email and the following password: TWDB_2021LB! (Note: the exclamation mark is part of the password).

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?

By providing the Lower Brazos RFPG with your input, the Regional Flood Plan will better represent your community’s flood risk, local flooding issues/needs, and potential mitigation solutions. This data collection effort is being coordinated with the ongoing Combined River Basin Study by the Texas General Land Office. As a result, your entity will be eligible to apply for future State funding to implement the proposed flood mitigation projects.

HOW DOES THE DATA COLLECTION TOOL WORK?

The data collection tool is designed to allow you to submit and upload a variety of flood-related data and information. Also, this tool is designed to be a “come and go” type experience, where you have the flexibility to save your information as needed while completing the survey. An electronic copy (pdf) of the stakeholder survey is available upon request if your organization/entity would like a list of the questions to “divide and conquer” by giving assignments to co-workers and associates who have relevant data.

Alternatively, you can mail hard copies of your information to the Lower Brazos lead consultant Attn: Sam Hinojosa, Halff Associates, Inc., 100 I-45 North, Suite 260, Conroe, TX 77301 .

NEED ASSISTANCE COMPLETING THE SURVEY?

If you have questions or concerns about the data collection tool and/or the interactive web map or need access to the survey as a community stakeholder, please contact Audrey Giesler with Halff Associates, Inc. at (817) 764-7510 or agiesler@halff.com .

Also, please contact Audrey if you would like to schedule a virtual meeting to discuss the data request questions and assistance with completing the survey .

Thank you for your participation in this important new regional flood planning effort!
